Std 5th – Pre Upper Primary Scholarship Examination (PUP)


Pre Upper Primary Scholarship Examination Std. 5th (PUP), which was previously known as Middle School Scholarship Examination, is a state level scholarship exam conducted by Maharashtra State Council of Education (MSCE) in India to identify students having academic talent at Primary and Upper Primary schooling and to encourage deserving students and provide them with financial support.

2021 Exam Time Table

As per the announcement at the official website of Maharashtra State Council of Education, Pune, the scholarship examinations are being postponed in view of the increasing incidents of corona virus and in the interest of students. The next date of examination will be announced in due course.

Eligibility Criteria

Domicile: The student should be a resident of Maharashtra i.e. the parent should have resided in Maharashtra for at least 15 years.
School: Student should be studying in government approved / subsidised / unsubsidised / permanent unsubsidised / self-funded school etc. in Std. 5th.
Students of State Board, CBSE, ICSE are eligible to appear for the scholarship exam. However, students of CBSE & ICSE won’t be eligible for scholarship. But the successful students of CBSE & ICSE boards will be issued Certificates.

Age: The age of the candidates should not be more than 11 years (15 years for PH candidates). Age of student as on 1st June 2022 must not be more than 11 years

Exam Pattern

The basic Maharashtra PUP Scholarship exam pattern overview is given below:
  • Mode of exam: OMR based exam
  • Number of papers: 2
  • Duration of exam: 90 minutes (each paper)
  • Medium of test: English/ Marathi/ Hindi/ Gujarati/ Telugu/ Kannada/ Urdu/ Sindhi
  • Number of questions: 75 (each paper)
  • Total marks: 150 (each paper)
  • Type of questions: Objective type
  • Marking scheme: 2 marks will be given for each right answer.
  • Negative marking: There will be no negative marking wrong answer.

Medium of the Exam
  • Exam is conducted in 8 (eight) Mediums :
  • Marathi, Urdu, Hindi, Gujarati, English, Sindhi, Telgu, Kannad
  • For students who have chosen Semi-English as their medium, following 7 (seven) options are available:
  • Marathi+English, Urdu+English, Hindi+English, Gujarati+English, Sindhi+English, Telgu+English, Kannad+English

Syllabus

As stated hereinabove, there are two Papers;
  • Paper-I has two subjects; First Language and Intelligence Test
  • Paper-II has two subjects; Third Language and Mathematics
Note:
  • For English Medium students – First Language is English & Third Language is Marathi
  • For Marathi Medium students – First Language is Marathi & Third Language is English

What Scholarship is awarded?

After the announcement of result, students selected for the award of the scholarship will receive scholarship amount. Selected students are paid Rs.100 to 500 per month.
Rs. 1000/- per year for 3 years.
